Stand out with a vintage dress…
April 4, 2013 by 16stone
Hello out there! I just wanted to show off one of my favorite vintage pieces in my closet. I wore this vintage Saks Fifth Avenue dress earlier this week while working on a new pilot for the CBS network. Check out me and my friend Shay who played a press reporter in the scene. Vintage wardrobe really makes you stand out. Because of this dress, I was put directly in the scene with the main actors just because the director wanted to make sure the dress was seen on camera! Make an impression, don’t forget to visit our etsy shop for rare vintage finds.

1957′s Duke Men’s Magazine
March 29, 2013 by 16stone
In the summer 1957, Duke Magazine was released featuring pin ups and articles centered towards African American men. The magazine targeted their consumer experience and encouraged them to take a look at the life of luxury. It featured short stories, poetry, and full fashion spreads. Notable writers like James Baldwin contributed to the magazine and Sammy Davis Jr. modeled suits. The Chicago based magazine only lasted 6 issues before eventually folding. Below are covers of all 6 issues along with pin up feature of Elenor Crews, “Duchess of the Month.”

Jet Magazine Pin Up Calendar Advertisements 1968-1979
March 25, 2013 by 16stone
Many people don’t know that Jet Magazine actually started to do nude pin up calendars after a while. The advertisements included order forms and usually appeared in the first few issues of the year as well as the last issues of the year. The calendars were in full color and for adults only. Copies of the calendars are extremely rare.

Blast From The Past…
March 19, 2013 by 16stone
Last night I had the sudden urge to look through every single one of my Facebook albums. I have 49 total since 2006. While reminiscing through the pictures, something crossed my mind. In the age of instagram, tumblr, twitter, and countless other digital platforms, do we value pictures anymore? This blog is special to me because I feel like each vintage picture I post is a hidden treasure. It is valued, it is unique, it is one of a kind. It’s here for us to remember the past and learn from it. Today you can seldom pass a person on the street without seeing someone stop to take a picture of every little thing.
Do we forget about these pictures? Do we only live in the present day’s photos? Well I am embarrassed to say as much as I love vintage photos, that I too am guilty. On my Facebook was an album from 2008, only 5 years ago that I totally forgot about. I forgot about the entire experience and I feel if I had tangible pictures in a photo book, I don’t think I could have ever forgotten. Pictures from my childhood that I can touch stay with me. Every piece of paper that they are printed on, every photo book they are tucked into is ingrained in me like a code. I would curl up and flip through the photos once a week at the very least. This ensured that I never forgot these pictures.
But how could I forget about an amazing experience in just 5 years? What about all those albums I deleted from Facebook? All those documented memories down the digital drain. For years, I’ve been telling myself to go print out photos that I’d like to keep for the future. I can’t even remember that they are on my Facebook! Well from this day forward that will change. My past will be tangible and digital. I will value my photos and relive my experiences over and over. Come along with me for this one from 2008…
These 6 pictures are from a Hugo Boss fashion show in 2008. I was still fairly new to New York City and this was one of my first times booking a promo model job with a big name label. When I arrived I joined the other models and we got our hair and make up done. We were given the Hugo Boss dress I’m wearing in the picture and then assigned roles to make the show run smoothly. The show brought out huge stars like Cuba Gooding Jr, Kristin Davis, Kate Winslet, and Julianne Moore. I did my walk on the ‘black carpet.”
After the show which was all of 15 minutes, we were invited to stay for the after-party. There was an amazing top shelf open bar, delicious catered food, and great music. It took place in a venue right next to the famous bull on Wall st. None of us could resist hoping on that thing for a commemorative picture. It was an amazing night, all forgotten or pushed so far back in my memory that only stumbling on these pictures could make me remember. Looking back at my pictures made me realize how much life I’ve lived. How many lucky experiences I’ve had.. How much opportunity New York City has given me. One thing is for sure, I will not be forgetting this night again.
