  7. Miss Cannes Festival 1959

    November 10, 2013 by 16stone

Cecelia Cooper went to France in 1959 and won the title of Miss Cannes Festival with the help of Grace Del Marco agency founder Ophelia DeVore. Cecelia beat out 14 other models of European decent. Ophelia DeVore set out to show the world that Black models had a place in the beauty world. She did just that with this stunning prodigy. The Grace Del Marco agency represented some of my other favorite vintage beauties like Dolores DeVega and Diahann Carroll.

  8. Serving you 1990′s Realness…

    November 7, 2013 by 16stone

Loving my fresh Havana Twists from Luvly Brown. I feel like it’s 1993 again. Somebody cue Jade “Don’t Walk Away.” All I need is some combat boots and baggy jeans. Got the old school lip color too. I feel like I got a second chance to finally be part of this look. When it was popular in 1993 I was only 10 years old. So as a kid, all I could do was admire and play dress up. Cheers for vintage coming back around.

  10. A Very Vintage Halloween…

    November 1, 2013 by 16stone

I didn’t grow up celebrating Halloween. So now all those years of missing out is manifesting in my adult years. This year, I was especially feeling the Halloween spirit. From Tuesday to Thursday I pretty much let loose. Of course I had to fit my vintage pieces in with my costumes. So much fun!

Originally a 1980′s Arnold Scaasi dress was tailored to make my zombie clown a hit.

Wednesday I did all my errands in this disturbing number. My white leather vintage jacket looked like a straight jacket. Vintage beaded Halloween sneakers on my feet too.

The grand finale on Halloween day was my homemade Dia De Las Muertos costume. From one vintage dress I was able to use the bodice as a shirt,  and the lace skirt into the veil and train.
