  2. Jet Magazine Pin Up Calendar Advertisements 1968-1979

     Many people don’t know that Jet Magazine actually started to do nude pin up calendars after a while. The advertisements included order forms and usually appeared in the first few issues of the year as well as the last issues of the year. The calendars were in full color and for adults only. Copies of the calendars are extremely rare.

  5. Hep Magazine

    Hep Magazine was a monthly publication of Good Publishing Company of Fort Worth Texas. The company also published Bronze Thrills and Jive magazine. These magazines all have similar story lines based on true confessions of ordinary people and celebrities.  The magazine was popular in beauty and barber shops because of what was considered “risque articles” which were not suitable reading in black families homes. Publication of this magazine had ceased by 1977 and had been in circulation for almost two decades.

    If you have read all of Maya’s books, by now you know before she became a great poet and writer she was an accomplished singer and dancer. Maya made her way singing calypso at small clubs in California. She eventually got a small dancing role with the musical Porgy and Bess.
